I specialize in late imperial and modern Chinese history. My research interests are: late imperial and modern Chinese history; China’s social and environmental history; history of water and rivers; Asian environmental humanities. I taught in Pittsburgh, Memphis, and Durham as well as in Doha and Bangladesh.

I am currently developing my second monograph, in which I analyze the entangled climate, human and natural histories of the Yangzi valley in late imperial period. I am also writing about ecological changes through social memories.
